Metagenome-Assembled Genomes of Novel Taxa from an Acid Mine Drainage Environment

چکیده
Bioremediating acid mine drainage requires understanding how microbial communities influence geochemical cycling of iron and sulfur biologically important elements such as carbon nitrogen. Research in this area has provided an abundance 16S rRNA gene amplicon data.

Draft Genome Sequences of Two Novel Acidimicrobiaceae Members from an Acid Mine Drainage Biofilm Metagenome
Bacteria belonging to the family Acidimicrobiaceae are frequently encountered in heavy metal-contaminated acidic environments. However, their phylogenetic and metabolic diversity is poorly resolved. We present draft genome sequences of two novel and phylogenetically distinct Acidimicrobiaceae members assembled from an acid mine drainage biofilm metagenome.
متن کاملNovel nickel resistance genes from the rhizosphere metagenome of plants adapted to acid mine drainage.
Metal resistance determinants have traditionally been found in cultivated bacteria. To search for genes involved in nickel resistance, we analyzed the bacterial community of the rhizosphere of Erica andevalensis, an endemic heather which grows at the banks of the Tinto River, a naturally metal-enriched and extremely acidic environment in southwestern Spain. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis of rh...
متن کاملPreventing acid mine drainage from mine tailings
Mining activity always has high impact on its surroundings, being waste deposition the cause of multiple and complex problems to the environment. One of them is Acid Mine Drainage (AMD), causing acid water percolation through large areas in the mine site. Portugal was a prosper tungsten producer from the beginning of the XX century, having its apogee during World War II. Nowadays there are mill...
متن کاملEcophysiology of Freshwater Verrucomicrobia Inferred from Metagenome-Assembled Genomes
Microbes are critical in carbon and nutrient cycling in freshwater ecosystems. Members of the Verrucomicrobia are ubiquitous in such systems, and yet their roles and ecophysiology are not well understood. In this study, we recovered 19 Verrucomicrobia draft genomes by sequencing 184 time-series metagenomes from a eutrophic lake and a humic bog that differ in carbon source and nutrient availabil...
متن کاملRubisCO gene clusters found in a metagenome microarray from acid mine drainage.
The enzyme responsible for carbon dioxide fixation in the Calvin cycle, ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (RubisCO), is always detected as a phylogenetic marker to analyze the distribution and activity of autotrophic bacteria. However, such an approach provides no indication as to the significance of genomic content and organization. Horizontal transfers of RubisCO genes occurring...
